Artificial Intelligence in General Practice

Project

General practice is gatekeeper to healthcare and consults patients with all kinds of health issues. This makes the current demographic development a problem for general practice, as the number of elderly patients with various chronic and more complex diseases rises and the demand for health care follows. The rise in patient consultations also results in more data to respond to in an already information-rich patient journal. A way to help general practice is to further digitalise electronic health records by implementing artificial intelligence. The potential for artificial intelligence has never been better due to the amount of available data and the success in developing technical computing power. Artificial intelligence in general practice has the potential to effectively sort data, prioritise health tasks and support diagnosis and treatment.

This PhD study aims to evaluate the perspectives of artificial intelligence among patients and general practitioners and assess the value created by artificial intelligence in general practice.

The outcome and knowledge achieved in this PhD study are expected to result in new knowledge on the value and perspectives of AI in general practice among general practitioners and patients. The PhD will contribute to the sustainable development and evaluation of AI in general practice, and recommendations for the application of artificial intelligence in general practice are anticipated.

Funding

The PhD study is financed by the Research Unit for General Practice and the Health Innovation Fund at The North Denmark Region.
